Reliance on top after Viacom media rights purchase in e-auction

An e-auction for media rights for broadcasting the Indian Premier League (IPL) has made Reliance Industries,  which owns Viacom18 along with Paramount Global and Bodhi Tree Systems will be the digital streaming partner of the tournament.

This is the first time that the broadcaster and the team owner is the same group. This is relevant because the revenue is Rs 48390 crore. IPL is now the second most valued sporting league in the world in terms of per match value.

A June 14 report by Bank of America  Securities notes that Viacom18 has won the digital rights, the telecom arm of RIL, that Jio would act as an exclusive digital distributor for IPL rights.
