The European Commission on 7th June, 2022 has approved and announced that electronic gadgets will have to use a common charger. This would force all companies, especially Apple to make devices use the USB-C charger. This is estimated to save the consumers of the EU an estimated amount of 250 million euros. This was done in view to increase convenience and reduce waste. The commission will also be able to set standards for wireless charging in the future.
As for the upcoming product innovations unveiled during the Worldwide Developers Conference (6-10 June):
Apple is preparing to release its most awaited iOS 16 during September, 2022. The iOS 16 allows for a lot of personalization that can be done to the lock screen icons and there's a new upgrade that will allow the iPhone users to add widgets to their lock screen. A new feature called Live Activities is being added to make it easier to keep track of on-going plans and events.
A "buy now, pay later" service has been in development and was previewed during the conference. This service allows to split up the cost incurred via Apple Pay purchases over four payments across six weeks and includes no interest or fees!
CarPlay is being updated to support multiple screens on cars.
The iPadOS has a major update and is aimed at professional users. The device will be able to show more content and offer a new multitasking view.
Focus filters are being introduced where notifications from "not so important at the moment" apps will be filtered out i.e. you can choose to be notified only from preferred apps.
Messages has a big update too where the users can edit and unsend messages after they are sent and mark any thread as unread.
The Live Text feature from the iOS 15 where the users get to copy text from images they see, gets an upgrade too where the users now can copy text from videos!
