The passenger vehicle makers are staring at an order book which is in excess of 653,000 units which is 2- 2.5 times the monthly average sales. There is a huge mismatch between the demand and supply.
Maruti Suzuki accounts for about half of the order backlog. It had a booking of 322,000 units and expects to clear the current bookings in 2 and a half months. It also depends on the bookings they receive in the interim period.
Other manufacturers also have a growing order book Hyundai has a backlog of 130,000 unita and Mahindra and Mahindra has a backlog of 146,000 units.
The reasons for the high demand is the preference of personal mobility since Covid, but could not meet the demand due to the semiconductor shortage.
