WPI inflation hits new high of 15.88%

India's wholesale price index based inflation rate has incresed to 15.88 per cent may 2022. This comes as food prices accelerated and commodity rates hardened.

The food inflation stood at 12.34 percent. Core inflation which excludes food and fuel inflation remained elevated at 10.4 per cent. Due to the increasing crude oil prices fuel inflation rose to 40.62 per cent. The weakening of the rupee against dollar will increase the cost of imports.

Economists expect the high WPI inflation rate to put pressure on CPI inflation.
